May Lindstrom The Blue Cocoon

Size: 1.69 oz / 50 ml

May Lindstrom’s The Blue Cocoon Beauty Balm Concentrate is one of those products that we think everyone with dry and/or fussy skin needs to try. It’s a gorgeously lightweight facial oil in a waterless, waxless balm form that liquefies upon contact with skin to deliver calming nourishment. It’s just as beautiful as it sounds — and don’t even get us started with the addictive, apple-chamomile-sweet sage-chocolate-mint scent. (It contains none of those things, interestingly enough.)

Beyond the sensory aspects of the product, though, is a deep bench of anti-inflammatory, nourishing oils and butters. Its base of camellia seed oil has a molecular weight that is a perfect match for skin, which we think is the secret to its lightweight texture.

The result? Ruddy complexions are soothed; chapped, rough, dry skin is history. Even if those aren’t your troubles, you’ll love it as an in-flight and post-flight moisturizer, and it's a fabulous night treatment on top of active serums containing retinol or glycolic acid. It's also a killer cheekbone and browbone highlighter, lip balm, eye cream, eyelid shine, and hand-healer. In addition to providing The Blue Cocoon with its bewitching color, Blue Tansy boasts stress-relieving, anxiety-reducing aromatherapeutic properties, too, so we find it to be an essential nightstand luxury for those with sleep issues.

Of all the products in the May Lindstrom lineup, The Blue Cocoon seems to be May’s favorite, and we can see why. She tells us, “It's beautiful under makeup or a bit over the top to add radiance, as an eye and lip treatment, run through my hair to smooth flyaways, to define my curls, and to envelop me in the most beautiful scent — and it was the sole treat to truly transform my skin from its constant battle with eczema and dermatitis into a complexion that visibly glows with health.”

Yes: it does everything. Plus, a little goes a long way, and a jar should last you a good 6 months.

PS It's our favorite in the lineup, too.

Testimonials & Press

"This is easily in my Top 10 products of all time. Possibly Top 5, but then I don’t like to pick favourites. It’s just too hard. May is really, really good at formulating beautiful products that don’t compromise for cost purposes. The blue in The Blue Cocoon is blue tansy oil. No artificial colourings, no gimmicks, it’s just blue. All together, the oils in this balm are analgesic, anti-allergenic, antibacterial, antimicrobial, antidepressant, antifungal, antiseptic, antispasmodic, antiviral, aphrodisiac (oo-er), disinfecting, diuretic – helping puffiness and they are a massive relaxant, which is why I only use it on the evenings. If I have work to do I cannot put this near my face. In the best way." Blogger & aesthetician Caroline Hirons
