Gua Sha tutorial for tired, puffy eyes

Gua Sha is a traditional healing technique from China that involves a small, smooth stone that is pressed against the skin to gently massage facial fascia, muscles, and skin while stimulating specific energy points. This encourages healthy circulation, releases muscular tension, and promotes lymphatic drainage for a more lifted, less puffy look and brighter, healthier looking skin. We particularly adore its effect around the eyes, where many of us notice puffiness.

In this quick and easy-to-follow video tutorial, a rose quartz sculpting spoon is used to help remove puffiness from the eye area.

A few tips:

Before any type of facial Gua Sha, begin by misting your face generously and add a few drops of your facial oil to the face and neck. A few facial oils we love for Gua Sha and facial massage are Dara’s Oil, de Mamiel Phyto-P Elixir, and MyHavtorn Organic Facial Oil. (Not sure which one to use? Email our Guides at help@aylabeauty.com for a personalized suggestion.)

Hold the tool at a 15-degree angle, hold the skin taut, and use light to medium pressure. Movements can be done the same number of times on each side, moving slowly and intentionally.

This spoon can be used warm or cold, and it’s particularly fun to use it at home on puffy eyes after a quick chill in the fridge or under running water. It’s an excellent addition to any collection of Gua Sha tools, like Lanshin's Nephrite Jade Gua Sha tool.

If you don’t have a tool on hand, follow along here with Annee from de Mamiel as she demonstrates eye massage techniques that reduce under-eye-puffiness and give the eye area a lifted look using the de Mamiel Essential Eye Fix.

And if you're looking for a daily eye product to support the health of the skin around the eyes while helping to minimize puffiness, dark circles, redness, and fine lines, our favorite is the Dara Kennedy Eye Serum.
