Fueguia 1833 is an artisanal laboratory that creates limited-edition perfumes using a palette of over 1200 botanical ingredients, some of which have never been used in perfumery before.

This gorgeous brand from Argentina is a pioneer in sustainable, phthalate-free fragrance production, and it is founder Julian Bedel’s personal tribute to the history, art, music, and nature that distinguish the vibrant culture of South America.

We’ve carried Fueguia’s perfumes at Ayla for the past few years, and one of the most frequent comments we’ve heard during that time has been, “I wish I could have a room smell like this.” So, when we saw these candles, quite possibly the most luxurious ones we’ve seen, we knew we had to have them.

Ett Hem: conifers & handwoven textiles
This wood sandalwood scent, with notes of cedar and black pepper, is the product of a collaboration between Fueguia and the incredibly stylish Ett Hem hotel in Sweden, blending scents from the conifer forests of the southernmost part of Patagonia and the northernmost part of Sweden. Fueguia’s team notes, “The concept behind this aromatic landscape was to bring the encounter of the two conifer forests into this antique home, shielded by the sophisticated warmth of wooden furniture and handwoven textiles.”

Jazmin Criollo: white floral opulent
In describing this creamy jasmine blend, Fueguia’s team writes, “Arriving at a summer house, as the doors and windows swing open, a jasmine vine takes over. A fresh breeze infuses the white fabrics draping over tables and beds with the anticipation of a new season. Whether it’s the rustic charm of a corner in Uruguay or the classic splendor of the Mediterranean, the feeling is the same: days of boundless summer radiance by the sea.”

Tierra del Fuego: spicy wood
In describing this warm clove scent, Fueguia’s team writes, “Miles away from the Arctic, bonfires were lit all through the night across the archipelagos. These smoky, burning woods bestowed the Mesozoic isles with their name: Land of Fire.” (We love this one for the holidays.)

Siesta en los Andes: green dry
This scent, evocative of fig leaves and pink pepper, is the freshest of the Velas but still feels lush and luxurious. Fueguia’s team describes it as follows: “A nap beneath the canopy of fig and aguaribay, amidst the arid Andes where the sun’s scorching rays crack the earth. A dry sweetness emanates from the surrounding vineyards, carried on waves of warm zonda winds, that periodically interrupt the freshness of the siesta shade.” We love this one.

Orquidea Nocturna: amber balsamic
Dara’s other favorite, this Mexican vanilla and cacao scent is warm, sweet, and soft — but never cloying. Fueguia’s team notes that this blend reflects “our fascination with South American flowers of the night, the Vanilla Orchid and the Cacao Flower, which develop their scent in the darkest hours, attracting their pollinators with a balsamic, decadent fragrance.”
