Brand Spotlights

BRAND SPOTLIGHT: COELHO

We couldn’t be more excited to be the first in the US to carry Coelho. These haircare and styling products from Paris feature scents, textures, and versatility unlike any others; they also leave hair feeling impossibly soft and well cared for. It’s a lineup that could only come from the mind of a supremely talented hairstylist — specifically, Adrien Coelho.

Adrien Coelho is a Parisian hairstylist who built his career across various capitals of the fashion world (Paris, New York, Miami, London, Milan), working editorial shoots, runway shows, and ad campaigns for houses including Chanel, Dior, Gucci, and Fendi, and for magazines like Vogue, Elle, L'Officiel, Cosmopolitan, and Harper's Bazaar.

Adrien’s celebrity clientele spans film and fashion, including such luminaries as Sophie Marceau, Virginie Efira, Camila Mendes, and Camilla Alves McConaughey. (Coincidence that they all have marvelous hair? We think not.) In 2021, after two decades behind the chair, he opened Très Confidentiel, an appointment-only salon tucked into the gardens of the Palais-Royal in Paris, a stone’s throw from Sophie Carbonari’s studio, one of Dara’s favorites for massage-forward facials.

As a stylist, Adrien has become known for an intimate, tailored approach that he describes as a type of hair "morphopsychology," where he reads each client's face shape, features, personality, and lifestyle before ever picking up his scissors.

His desire to help his clients bring home products that fit their hair, scalp, and lifestyle like a glove—just like your skincare—led him to launch Coelho in 2022, after three years developing formulas with pharmacists and dermatologists in Paris. The line reflects his signature aesthetic: minimal, ultra-cool, aromatherapy-forward, and built for the "undone" look he's known for. It’s hair that appears effortless because of precise, thoughtful care underneath, the hair we’ve all always wanted.

Want to be a fly on the wall for Dara’s “tell me all about yourself” conversation with Adrien? You’ll find a few of its highlights below, and in this next post, Adrien walks Dara through the full launch lineup, which you definitely won’t want to miss.

Dara: I’m so excited about Coelho—these are really cool, unique products that no one else could make. What do you think is your secret?

ADRIEN: I think it’s just that I love hair, I love people, and I wanted to make products that were different in their vision and philosophy. For me, it's important to create things that I'm proud of. And I want them to be efficient; there are a lot of brands in the world, so I feel it’s my responsibility to make something different that has results. If you make the same products as another people, it’s not good for the planet, you know?

Also, I don't like a lot of perfume in general. That’s why I use essential oils in the formulas to give them a scent that’s a little lighter—and this way, the formulas can be helpful not only for the scalp and hair, but also for the emotions. I like aromatherapy.

And with the naming and the packaging and style…I just wanted to make something that represented who I am. I like art; I like minimalism. I like things very simple and chic, so I wanted to create a brand that had allure.

But ultimately, it’s also about respecting people. And my goal is not to just have a brand and be successful and have younger people like it; I'm 42. I make products for people who are my age and older, too. These are products that aren’t just like makeup, covering things up; they build health from the roots. It’s a new way to think about hair products, I think.

Dara: I agree. You told me earlier, “I know hair, and it's always the same.” What do you mean by that?

ADRIEN: People say the same thing all the time:

“I wash my hair every day, and I’m losing volume.” But…you lose your volume because also you wash your hair every day.

Or, “My hair is damaged,” but they don’t use conditioner. Yes…but you have to close the cuticle, you know?

So I think the problem is that people don't know what to do, because there are so many different messages: there’s this thing on Instagram, this thing on YouTube…I just wanted to create products that give you what your hair needs to look good.

They’re easy to use, too; you just need to know if you require more of a detox, or if you have dry or damaged hair, or you need more volume. It’s the same thing with the skin on your face: when you have the right balance between nutrition and hydration, your skin glows. It’s fresh, it’s beautiful. For hair, I use the same philosophy. It’s all about the right balance, the right proportions. Then, it all feels easy.
