Olio E Osso Tinted Balms: Fall 2024 Tips from Paola

Paola LaMorticella, the founder of Olio E Osso, has been the go-to makeup artist and stylist for top athletes for over 25 years. We first fell in love with Paola’s Tinted Balms, which she originally developed while working on photo shoots with the US Women’s Soccer Team: they’re versatile, sheer, and give skin the light wash of color that is often all you need to look a little fresher and brighter.

Here, Paola shares some fall 2024 tips for the balms: shades she thinks are particularly of-the-moment, and tricks for using them in slightly different ways.

Dara: What are some perfect makeup shades to use right now?
PAOLA: I always love to mix a few colors. Right now, my favorite base color is Berry #4. As a highlight, center lip, I use Persimmon #8 and Crimson #3. Spring #9 is also great.

Dara: Any tricks for using the balms (or any other products) that we might not think of?
PAOLA: I love to use the colored balms as a primer and color intensifier for powder eye shadows. I use my finger to smudge balm on the lid, then use a fluffy brush to tap and press the powder in. There are many combos that work beautifully. Lately I’ve been using Tea Rose #10 with a rich burgundy shadow, or Spring #9 with a nice bright shimmer iridescent.

Another thing I’ve been digging is matting the color balms with a little powder through one thin layer of tissue to give your lips a more velvety look. More bitten or just kissed. To get the effect, you swipe the colored balm on in layers to deepen the shade. When you get the desired color, place one thin layer of tissue on the lips and lightly powder on top of it so it just gets through to the lips. It’s an easy way to achieve another beautiful texture with these balms.
