Skincare for boys: Nora's suggestions

We’ve heard from many of you that your consultations with Nora have been enormously helpful, which is no surprise. What was a surprise to us, though, was how many of you ended up discussing skincare for young men with her; since she has three boys of her own, she thought she’d take a minute to write up a few ideas for any young men who might be in your life.

Check them out below, and book some time with Nora if you’d like to get some of her ideas for you, too.

We have been delighted to receive messages from you about your children's skin and body care routines. Most recently, even my boys, who are aged 10, 9, and 6, have professed an interest in their own routines. (Well, maybe not my 6 year old...he still thinks a mud bath is jumping headfirst into our pond out back.)

So, I thought I would take a minute to write a few ideas for the young men in your life. Whether they are sporty guys that wear helmets and are starting to notice some bumps along their hair lines or are perhaps developing — how shall we say — a scent, here are some wonderful ideas to get your little gentlemen well on their way to healthy skin and body habits.

My son is absolutely obsessed with the Ursa Major Essential Face Wipes.  They are infused with all the essentials in a solid face wash: (Aloe soothes & hydrates while promoting healthy tissue regeneration, Witch hazel contains anti-inflammatory & astringent properties (tightens/shrinks pores) and Willow bark extract soothes & conditions; natural source of beta hydroxy acid (exfoliator & acne fighter) while being super simple to use. I don't know about you, but I still have to remind my son to brush his teeth, so the easier the better. I keep some in my car for post practice swipes, too!

I also love the Elave Skin Balancing Cleansing Gel. It is a delightful foaming wash with active manuka honey, which provides bacteria-fighting power that will be appreciated by the acne-pron, and chamomile extract that soothes and calms.

Regarding moisturizer, I think a serum type gel moisturizer is a great choice. Ursa Major Fortifying Gel Moisturizer goes on very easily and feels very light on the skin.

Also, the Elave Oil-Free Skin Balancing Moisturiser is a soothing, lightweight lotion for balanced to oily skin that could also be a great choice.

There are two Ursa Major deodorants to consider. The main question for your little lad: to stick or to spray?

Hoppin’ Fresh (the stick) features a crisp unisex eucalyptus-citrus scent, while Sublime Sage features a slightly more herbaceous unisex blend of sage, sandalwood, lemon myrtle, and geranium.

Sublime Sage (the spray) also uses yeast-derived enzymes to neutralize odor, but everything else about is different: it’s a spray rather than a stick, and it uses a couple of other new, clean compounds to control odor both within the pores and before it even starts. Designed to cover both exertion (exercise) and stress sweat, the lightweight, non-staining, vegan, and (of course) aluminum-free formula dries quickly, leaving behind nothing but long-lasting protection against odor and its related you-don’t-want-these-in-your-microbiome bacteria.

Finally, how about a shampoo and conditioner and body wash that's all theirs?

The Ursa Major line makes a fabulous shampoo, conditioner and body wash offering gorgeous uplifting scents, non-drying ingredients, and suitability for all hair types.

Finally, at bedtime, I have been loving the ritual of a back rub with a little aromatherapy room spray.

Les Fleurs de Bach makes excellent treatment sprays. For a sense of beautiful calmness and clarity, spray this Sleep Room Treatment Spray all around their bed before kissing them goodnight.

These products are enough to get these boys — dare I say — excited about their wellness routines, and will definitely give you some bragging rights. It's not often (as our kids get older) we get to teach them something new.

Thanks for letting me be a part of your day
Nora
